Helping Homeless Mothers Gain Independence through Education

May is, of course, the Month of Mom.  In 2014, we celebrated the best way we knew how:  by giving back to the Moms in need in our community.  And we found an ideal team to work with.  On a sunny Saturday in May, we partnered with Emmaus Inc.  and Alex and Ani to raise money for homeless moms gaining their independence through education.

Since opening over 25 years ago, Emmaus has helped more than 25,000 men, women and children leave homelessness behind by gaining permanent housing, jobs and self-sufficiency.charity food bank The Bethel Business Center is critical to this process, offering vital education and job training, GED preparation, financial literacy courses, and more.

The word spread quickly about the Alex and Ani Indi Rock band Colour of London, food and fun for the cause.  We filled an SUV with food donations for the Emmaus food bank. The fun began at 11 a.m. with a live radio broadcast from the whacky Mark and Karen of WOKQ’s Morning Waking Crew.  Attendees felt the energy and participated by purchasing bangles of which all the proceeds were donated to Emmaus.

Thanks to the enthusiasm of our customers, ownership in the event by Annie’s associates, generous donations, raffle ticket sales and proceeds from Alex and Ani sales . . . we were able to donate money in addition to a van filled with non-perishable food items for Emmaus families.
