Charity. Changing Lives. One Goat at a Time
Annie’s associates recently teamed up to buy 9 goats. No, these aren’t mascots and you won’t be seeing them roaming around Baldoria anytime soon . . . these goats are going to change the lives of impoverished families in Haiti!
Four years after the 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Haiti claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, the Haitian people continue to struggle battling hunger, dehydration and waterborne diseases. The country’s infrastructure was destroyed; water became severely contaminated, 1.5 million people became homeless. Many continue to rely on relief efforts to survive.
In the past, Annie’s had worked with great charities like Pure Water to provide water filtration systems to Haitians with no access to clean drinking water. This time, associates decided to address another issue: self-sufficiency. Pregnant goats are given to Haitian families in need – – no strings attached. They can be bred and bartered, or used as a source of protein for their meager diets. This is an invaluable resource for these families with an average income of $90-300 per year (the average U.S. family spends this on a weekly grocery shopping trip).
Interested in helping? The Haitian Health Foundation has many great programs including the Give-A-Goat program. Team up with friends, family or coworkers to buy goats, sponsor students’ education, buy a house, or even adopt a village. Amazingly small investment for an amazingly big return.
